الملة”

عامة ما وردت فيه في القرآن كانت بدلالة العقيدة,
Generally what is mentioned in the Quraan regarding it is as an indication and token of belief

وعامتها لإبراهيم عليه السلام,
And it commonly is for Ibrahim (As),

ويراد بها الحنيفية والتوحيد كعقيدة لدين المسلمين,
And what is meant by it is upright religion and oneness of Allah like beliefs for the faith and beliefs of the religion of the believers,

فهي جزء خاص من عموم الدين, وبعض من كل.
So it is a special and exclusive portion of the general religion, and a part of the whole.

ويشرح هذا آية سورة البقرة,
A verse from Surah Baqarah explicitly expounds this,

بما تركّز فيه على “العقيدة”
With what is based on “العقيدة”

{ومن يرغب عن ملة إبراهيم إلا من سفه نفسه ولقد اصطفيناه في الدنيا وإنه في الآخرة لمن الصالحين,
Who but a foolish man would renounce the faith of Ibrahim?
We chose him in this worldly life, and in the Hereafter, He will be among the righteous.

إذ قال له ربه أسلم قال أسلمت لرب العالمين,
When His Rabb asked him: “Be a Muslim” he answered: “I have become a Muslim to the Rabb of the worlds”

ووصى بها إبراهيم بنيه ويعقوب يا بني إن الله اصطفى لكم الدين فلا تموتن إلا وأنتم مسلمون,
This was the legacy that Ibrahim left to his sons and so did Yaqoob, when he said: oh my son’s! Allah has chosen for you this Deen (way of Life) therefore die not unless you are Muslims”.

أم كنتم شهداء إذ حضر يعقوب الموت إذ قال لبنيه ما تعبدون من بعدي,
Were you present when death approached Yaqoob?
He asked his sons: Who will you worship after me?

قالوا نعبد إلهك وإله آبائك إبراهيم واسماعيل وإسحق إلها واحداً ونحن له مسلمون}.
They replied: “we will worship the same One God who is your Rabb and the Rabb of your forefathers Ibrahim, Ismaeel and Ishaaq, and to him we will submit as Muslims.

“الشريعة”

وهي الكتاب للنبي,
It is a book of a prophet

التي تُنزل أوامر الله ونواهيه منزل التطبيق والأداء,
In Which the commandments and prohibitions of Allah (Swt) descends as an application and fulfilment

فهي في سورة الجاثية هكذا
Likewise is it mentioned in Surah جاثية:

{ولقد آتينا بني إسرائيل الكتاب والحكم والنبوة, ……. ثم جعلناك على شريعة من الأمر فاتبعها},
{We gave the book to the children of Israel and bestowed on them rulership and prophethood………….
Oh prophet! We have put you on the Shariah (Right way) of our commandment so follow it}

فالشريعة ما يحكم به النبي من كتاب الله.
So Shariah is what the Prophets commands from the Book of Allah (Swt)

فالتوراة كتاب بني إسرائيل التي يحكم بها أنبياؤهم, فهي بهذا لهم شريعة {إنا أنزلنا التوراة فيها هدى ونور يحكم بها النبيون الذين أسلموا للذين هادوا}.

Thus the Torah is the Book of the Bani Israeel from which their prophet judged/ ruled..
Therefore this was their Shariah..
“Indeed we revealed the Tawrat to Moose (As) in which there is guidance and light: by its laws all the prophets, who were Muslims judged those who can themselves Jews

“الدين”

وهو الملة والشريعة معاً,
And Deen is ملة and شريعة together,

أي العقيدة الحنيفية, والأحكام المنزلة المفروضة مما شرعه الله وأمر به ونهى عنه, فهذا بمجموعه هو الدين,
That is upright and true beliefs, and those compulsary revealed rulings of what Allah (swt) had prescribed and commanded with and prohibited from, all of this together and collectively is Deen

{وما اُمروا إلا ليعبدوا الله مخلصين له الدين, حنفاء –فهذه الملة- ويقيموا الصلاة ويؤتوا الزكاة –وهذه الشريعة- وذلك دين القيمة}, وهذا هو الدين الكامل,
Yet, they were commanded nothing but to worship Allah, with their sincere devotion to Him, being True in their faith – so this is ملة –
To establish Salaah and to pay Zakaah, – this is Shariah –
And that is the infallible true religion. }
This is Deen in totality/ complete and perfect Deen

فلا يخلص الدين كله لله إلا أن تكون الملة لله وتكون الشريعة لله, {حتى لا تكون فتنة ويكون الدين كله لله}.
Therefore Allah (swt) can not be worshipped faithfully and sincerely except that there be ملة لله and شريعة لله
{Until there is no more disorder and Allah’s supremacy is established}

ومن تدبر آية الأنعام بانت له بيضاء,
Whoever ponders over the verse in Surah الأنعام
For him the difference would be manifest

{قل إنني هداني ربي إلى صراط مستقيم, ديناً قيماً؛ (الملة) ملة إبراهيم حنيفاً وما كان من المشركين,
{O Muhammad! Tell them: “As for me, surely, my Rabb has guided me to the Right Way, the ever true Deen, “the faith” ( ملة) of Ibrahim, the upright who was not from the Mushrikeen”.}

(والشريعة) قل إن صلاتي ونسكي ومحياي ومماتي لله رب العالمين, لا شريك له (فالملة له والشريعة له) وبذلك اُمرت وأنا أول المسلمين}.
And ( الشريعة )is {“Also say: Surely, my Salaah, my sacrifices, my life, and my death are all for Allah, the Rabb of the worlds, He has no partner (so ملة and شريعة is for Him alone) thus I am commanded and I am the first of the Muslims.}

فمن اعتقد ألا إله إلا الله فقد وافق ملة الإسلام.
So whoever has the belief that there is no God worthy of worship except Allah then surely it is in conformity with the ملة of Islam

ومن احتكم لشرع الله فاتبع أوامره ونواهيه على لسان نبي قومه المرسل إليه, فقد وافق شريعة الإسلام.
Whoever seeks an order for the Shariah of Allah upon the tongue of a Nabi’s nation to whom he was sent thus following his commandments and prohibitions then surely it is in accordance to the Shariah of Islam

ومن جمع ملة الإسلام وشريعة الإسلام فصار أمره كله لله فذلك المسلم, {وذلك دين القيمة}.
And whoever gathers between ملة of Islaam and شريعة of Islaam then all his matters will be for Allah and such a person is a Muslim {and this is the ever true religion}

ومن وافق ملة المسلمين وخالف شريعة الله فليس بمسلم, كذلك من وافق شريعة الله وخالف ملته {حتى يكون الدين كله لله}.
And whoever is in compliance with the ملة of the believers but he goes contrary to the شريعة of Allah then such a person is not a Muslim, and similarly that person who goes in accordance to the شريعة of Allah but goes contrary to the ملة of Islaam…..
{Until the Deen of Allah is fully and completely established}

فالملة لم يبدلها الله, ولا ينسخها البتة,
Now الملة is such that Allah (Swt) does not change it, and Allah never abrogates it,

{وما أرسلنا من قبلك من رسول ولا نبي إلا نوحي إليه ألا إله إلا أنا فاعبدون},
{The fact is that to every Rasool whom we sent before you we revealed the same message there is non worthy of worship beside me so worship me alone

والشريعة تُنسخ ويزاد فيها وتُفصّل {ويضع عنهم إصرهم والأغلال التي كانت عليهم}, فيزاد في الشريعة الواحدة وينسخ منها.
And from Shariah matters become abrogated and increases also, it is been illustrated:
{Who relieves them from their heavy burdens and from the yokes that were around their necks}
So from one Shariah alone an increase takes place and an abrogation

والدين الواحد المجتمع بالملة والشريعة لا يتبدل,
And the one and only Deen which is a gathering between ملة and شريعة can never change

ملته قائمة متصلة,
It’s ملة is established and attached

تُملى من نبي إلى نبي,
Which persuade from one Nabi to the other

ويوصى بها من عهد إلى عهد,
And it was recommended from one Era to the Era

{ووصى بها إبراهيم بنيه ويعقوب},
{This was the legacy that Ibrahim left to his sons and so did Yaqoob}

وأركان الشريعة ثابتة, من الصلاة والصيام والزكاة, في كل الكتب وعند كل النبيين,
The principles of شريعة is established, Salaah, Fasting and Zakaah, In every holy script and according to every prophet

فهذا عيسى بن مريم {وأوصاني بالصلاة والزكاة ما دمت حياً},
So this is Esa Ibn Maryam
{He has commanded me to establish Salaah and give Zakaah as long as I live}

وكما اُمر بها بنو إسرائيل من قبل, {وأقيموا الصلاة وآتوا الزكاة واركعوا مع الراكعين},
And likewise was the Banu Israeel commanded before,
{And Establish Salaah and give Zakaah and bow with those who bow}

و{كتب عليكم الصيام كما كتب على الذين من قبلكم},
{And fasting has been ordained for you just the way it was ordained for those before you}

ثم يفصل الله ما يشاء وينسخ ما يشاء, {ويضع عنهم إصرهم والأغلال التي كانت عليهم}.
Then Allah detaches what He wishes and abrogates what He wishes
{ Who relieves them from their heavy burdens and from the yokes that were around their necks

فبهذه الملة القائمة المملاة المتصلة,
So this is the established persuade and attached ملة

وهذه الشريعة القائمة بأركانها الموسعة بتفاصيلها كما يشاء الله,
And this is the Shariah established with its principles extended with its details the way Allah wishes

بهذا كله يبقى الدين كله خالصاً لله واصباً لا ينقطع,
Together with this does the Deen remain completely pure for Allah, constantly (the law that prevails forever) which will never be severed

{وله ما في السموات والأرض وله الدين واصباً, أفغير الله تتقون}.
{ To him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and perpetual sincere devotion I’d always for him alone – would you then fear anyone other then Allah?}
